WORKSHOP

Storytelling for influence

Imagine presenting at your next design review—and walking out with the whole team on board. Or sharing your vision at the next strategy meeting—and seeing your product partners buy in. That’s real influence. Storytelling can help you build it.

But too often, we miss opportunities to use storytelling in our work. We get stuck in fear: What if my ideas get shot down? We worry about being icky: Can’t I just do design? I don’t want to sell it. Or maybe we know that storytelling would help our work—but we don’t know where or how to start.

This workshop addresses all those issues and more. You’ll leave feeling prepared to tell your work’s story on your own terms—instead of letting someone else write the script.

What we’ll cover

In this session, you’ll learn a flexible framework you can use to communicate your vision, present your work, and advocate for UX to partners and senior leaders—so you can confidently build influence across your org, without being someone you’re not. You’ll learn:

  • Where most design presentations go wrong—and how to find the right focus to make them go right

  • Why your UX and product design skills are a storytelling superpower

  • A framework for better understanding your business partners’ perspectives, so your stories connect with what they care about

  • Tools for telling stories that connect with your audience’s priorities (not just your own)

  • How to use simple storytelling techniques to make any work presentation—or even just a conversation—more persuasive and influential
