Code of Conduct
Throughline aims to offer a safe and welcoming space for a diverse group of peers to discuss challenging topics in design and UX. When you register for Throughline (including accepting a comp or in-kind ticket), you agree that you will help us in that mission by following this code of conduct.
This code applies to all aspects of the conference experience, including all conference chat platforms, interactive workshops, Q&As, and coaching sessions, and any other interactions you have with other conference participants for the duration of Throughline.
Respectful conduct
We know that discussing the future of our field can lead to disagreement. We welcome difficult conversations at Throughline. However, we expect all participants to keep those conversations respectful at all times. We do not tolerate name-calling, insults, threats of violence, or personal attacks.
We also seek to create an environment of inclusion and safety, especially for those whose identities are underrepresented or marginalized. When interacting with Throughline speakers, staff, or participants, whether in written or verbal communication, we expect participants to take the time to use the correct pronouns and names. Ask how to pronounce a name when needed. Be kind, be helpful, and be supportive of one another.
Non-harassment policy
We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form, including offensive comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, sex, sexual orientation, disability, neuro(a)typicality, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, national origin, immigration status, age, political affiliation, or religion.
Sexual language and imagery are also not appropriate at Throughline.
Unwelcome comments regarding a person’s lifestyle choices and practices (including those related to food, health, parenting, drugs, and employment), deliberate misgendering or use of “dead” or rejected names, and unwelcome sexual attention will not be tolerated.
What happens if you violate this code
If you are asked to stop any behavior that violates this code, you are expected to do so immediately.
If you violate this code of conduct, you may be warned, asked to leave the event, or even banned from future events. This decision will be made at the discretion of Throughline staff. We will not offer refunds if you are asked to leave for violating this policy.
We reserve the right to delete any message shared with other participants if it violates this policy.
What to do if there’s an issue
If something or someone has made you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, we encourage you to reach out to us. You can:
Send a Throughline staff member a direct message during the event.
Email us after the event at hello@activevoicehq.com with information about the incident, and whether you want to be contacted to discuss further.
You can be as involved as you want in the process that follows your report. We will fully investigate the issue reported and take whatever action we deem most useful for preventing a recurrence.
We will respect confidentiality requests. At our discretion, we may publicly name a person about whom we’ve received harassment complaints, or privately warn third parties about them, if we believe that doing so will increase the safety of others. We will not name reporting parties without their explicit consent.
Thank you for helping us keep our events safe, inclusive, and welcoming!
